Choose Wisely to Create a Spectacular 2006

We don’t know beginning unless we know ending—tall/short, pleasure/pain, etc. It’s called the Law of Relativity, or opposites. As we welcome a new beginning in 2006, let’s honor the ending of 2005 by replacing the Santa hat with a detective hat and unveil the clues that can bring unbounded joy to the new year. Let the investigation begin!

Endings can be very exciting if viewed as opportunities for completions, change, and organization. This course of action is simply about moving energy. It is only a belief that adds the gloom, fear or despair to the idea of change. "It’s too much work," or "things aren’t really that bad in my life," or "this is just the way I am." Humbug.

The Chinese have been consciously working with energy for thousands of years through the ancient science of Feng Shui, which is based on three principles: everything is alive, everything is connected and everything is in a constant state of change. Why do you suppose some people tend to hold on, resist change, and grow fearful of the future, while others have learned to embrace the moment knowing and trusting it to unfold perfectly? Under which category would you place yourself?

Let’s apply the many aspects of our being to the art of Feng Shui. There is order in the universe and when our lives are in order, we function more in alignment with life. Clutter prevents us from focus, alignment and clarity. For example, we have physical clutter: old clothes that don’t fit any longer, excess stuff in our homes and garages and "stuff" that seems to grow while we’re sleeping. Mental clutter can be described as old ways of thinking that no longer serve you. Such as, "I’ll never have the relationship I’m looking for," or "good things always happen to other people." Your mind can be filled with thoughts that convince you of keeping undelivered communications in place, making you right and the other wrong. Then you have the juicy emotional clutter that reeks of holding onto old toxic pain, resentment, jealousy, low self-esteem and guilt. There is even spiritual clutter that refuses to surrender to the acknowledgement of a Creative Intelligence that is vast, unlimited, and infinite and is there to guide as well as love you. Clutter prevents us from knowing our true nature and connecting with life.

As you greet a new month and a new year, I invite you to analyze how clutter is impacting your life. If you were willing to look into just one of the four categories to discover your own unique clutter, you’d be way ahead as you bring in 2006. What pieces of clothing are no longer useful to you? What beliefs are outdated and do not serve your well-being? What nagging thoughts keep you feeling small, limited and stuck? What are you attached to that brings up so much fear when you even think of letting go of it? What relationships are not working for you any longer that you maintain for survival reasons? How much longer will you remain in a job that feels totally wrong for you?

To assist you in moving energy with regard to clutter, here are a few suggestions:

  1. Invest in a beautiful journal for 2006. Notice the pages are empty. You get to choose how to fill each page. If you don’t, life will fill them for you.
  2. Make four columns and categorize them as indicated above. This does not have to be overwhelming. Change your thinking about it and you’ll change the outcome.
  3. Fill in each appropriately and do a review of your discoveries.
  4. Take action: sort your old belongings then disperse them accordingly. Throw away what doesn’t work or repair it if possible for functionality. What doesn’t serve you any longer will serve another. Take those negative thoughts and dump them at the dump. Be willing to open up, trust and receive the guidance from the universe.

2006 consists of 12 months, or 365 days, or 8,760 hours, or 525,600 minutes. Choose wisely the thoughts that make up those moments of now. You are powerful and can create whatever it is you can imagine. And don’t forget to have fun in the process.
